Frequently Asked Admission Questions
Do my clothes need to be labeled before my arrival or will they be done onsite?
A minimum of 5 days worth of clothing (including night clothes) needs to be labeled with both your first and last name. Masonic Pathways has labels available upon request, or you may use a permanent black marker. Your clothing must be listed on the Personal Belongings Inventory form prior to your admission day.
Do I need, or can I bring with me, personal furniture, knick-knacks, and pictures?
Masonic Pathways will be your new home and we encourage you to bring in items that will make you comfortable. Upon request, we will provide a twin bed and dresser; however you are responsible to bring items such as a television, telephone, radio, table lamp, and comfortable chair. We can assist with hanging pictures, mirrors, and small shelves on the walls in your room. Please keep safety in mind when deciding which items to bring with you. Items you bring must be listed on the Personal Belongings Inventory form prior to your admission day.
Do you provide bed linens and towels?
Masonic Pathways does provide both bed linens and towels. You may bring your own linens and towels; however, you will be required to launder them yourself in the onsite Resident Laundry room.
May I bring my lift chair or rocking chair?
Both lift chairs and rocking chairs are allowed in the Michigan Masonic Home; however, for personal safety these chairs are not allowed in the Jack F. Sanders Health Care Center.
Are long distance telephone and cable television services provided?
Both services are available in all areas of our campus. Cable television and local telephone service are included in your room rate. Unlimited long distance telephone service is available for a nominal charge.
What is a Resident Service Plan?
The Resident Service Plan outlines your needs and includes care topics such as medication management, activity, bathing, eating, assistive devices, and any other special needs you may have. During your interview please ask for a sample copy of the Resident Service Plan to review as this will assist you with providing important information to our staff so they may better individualize your care.
Do you offer onsite rehabilitative therapy and nutritional counseling by trained professionals?
We are pleased to offer physical, occupational, and speech therapies to our residents. We also offer nutritional counseling provided by registered dieticians.
What happens if I become incontinent, need a wheelchair, or require oxygen in the future?
Our clinical staff will work closely with you to assure that your medical needs are met in a timely and confidential manner.
What happens if I become frail or have a serious injury from a fall?
We are a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). You are assured that you’ll have priority access to higher levels of care should you become ill or suffer an injury.
May I have alcohol in my room?
If you reside within the Michigan Masonic Home, you may keep alcoholic beverages in your room. We also offer locked beverage storage units in the Wright Place Café. Consumption of alcohol by residents in the Jack F. Sanders Health Care Center requires a written physician’s order.
What are your smoking policies?
Masonic Pathways is a smoke/tobacco free campus. We do not ask residents to give up smoking; we simply ask that there be no smoking on our campus. Smoking cessation materials (Quit Kits) will be made available to new residents upon request.
Are personal pets allowed?
Unfortunately we are unable to allow personal pets in the Michigan Masonic Home or in the Jack F. Sanders Health Care Center. However, we do have several Pathways Pets such as cats, dogs, fish, and birds that live with us for the enjoyment of residents and staff.
What transportation options are available for outside appointments, local shopping, and entertainment events?
Masonic Pathways has a helpful Transportation Department that assists residents with their transportation needs. A local, off-campus Dial-A-Ride transportation service is also available to residents.
Do you offer spiritual services?
Pastor George Ayoub is the full time Chaplain at Masonic Pathways. He provides a nondenominational service every Sunday in the Doig Chapel as well as weekly worship services in the Jack F. Sanders Health Care Center. Pastor George also leads a weekly Bible study and offers residents one on one spiritual care.
What kinds of recreation and leisure activities are available? Is there an additional cost?
The Recreational Activities Department incorporates resident suggestions and feedback to develop monthly calendars of activities that include shopping and off-campus trips. There is generally no additional cost for these activities; however there may be charges applied if a resident exceeds the allotted number of craft projects in a month in the Activities Center. Most off-campus trips are free, with the exception of meal costs.
Can I get my hair cut or styled?
The Hair Company located on the ground floor of the Michigan Masonic Home provides hair care services, manicures, and many other specialized beauty treatments for residents.
Is storage space available to me?
Masonic Pathways provides limited storage space for personal belongings. Storage is limited and is based on availability of space.
